“Pecha- Kucha” is a Japanese word meaning chit chat and is described as a presentation methodology in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each. The format, which keeps presentations concise and fast paced, powers multiple-speaker events called Pecha Kucha Nights. – Wikipedia

We had one such Pecha Kucha afternoon. The brief was to present a power point presentation of 15 slides, dedicating 20 seconds to each slide explaining how and why a work has influenced our art practice.

When I started gathering images for my presentation, I was uncertain about forming the link between the works I appreciated and their visible influence on my work since, I had not been working on a particular subject before my masters.

As I started gathering the images for the presentation and looked at them together, a process of evaluation started in my head, contemplating the reasons for my likeness of those particular artworks. This exercise was beginning to answer the following questions:
– What do you I want to achieve through my artwork?
– Who is my work for?
– What kind of materials do I want to use?
– Why do I want to use them?

As this was the first time I had sincerely thought about my art practice and begun to work towards it whilst trying to get rid of my inhibitions.
